Awards season is well underway and within the space of 24 hours we’ve seen the BAFTAs in London’s Royal Opera House, followed by the Grammys in LA’s Downtown Staple Center venue.
So this year pre the Grammys awards ceremony, a memo was sent out to all attendees regarding the dress code. They decided to do this to prevent wardrobe malfunctions and inappropriate suggestive costumes/outfits as worn by previous attendees/performers.
As seen on E! Online website, the memo states (in a somewhat surprising, perhaps seemingly colloquial lexis):
“Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure.”
However while some of the guests listened intently, others still sounded to the beat of their own drum and followed their own rules.
Here are my favourite and best dressed of this years Grammys 2013:
Taylor Swift donned a very sophisticated Grecian style cream/white gown by J. Mendel. She wore it with Jimmy Choo shoes, Lorraine Schwartz earrings, a Jaimin with Lorraine Schwartz bracelet and Ofira ring. With her young, not-so-perfect perfect up-do, Taylor looks incredible!
Natasha Beddingfield looked absolutely stunning in a red lace cut-out Emerson floor length gown from the Spring 2013 collection. She paired this with red satin shoes (designer TBC) and Marina B jewels. With such strong detailing in the dress, her natural makeup and simple hair style ensure that the focus doesnt move from her outfit. An absolute round of applause for this gorgeous look.
Carly Rae Jepson graced the carpet in a black Roberto Cavalli gown. Matched with Jerome C. Rousseau shoes and H. Stern jewellery, the US popstar looks fabulously chic.
Rihanna sported a custom made Azzedine Alaia scarlet dress together with Manolo Blahnik heels and Neil Lane jewellery. I usually have a very 50/50 view on stars wearing red on a red carpet when the dress has no definite, dramatic detailing. However while this dress is a similar red hue to her path, the figure-hugging, almost see-through flowing gown together with her loose long curls really sets Rihanna apart from the crowds.
Maybe its the influence of her beau John Mayer, or maybe its just because her complicated past marriage is an official closed chapter in her life. whatever it is, Katy Perry looks better than ever. Wearing a sea foam coloured gown by Gucci Resort 2013, with intricate floral detailing around the collar, her loose hair style and natural make-up give Katy a really fresh new image. Lets hope we see more of this new chapter.
Another green dress to grace the carpet was worn by none other than Florence Welch. This custom made Givenchy is just stunning. Being such a bold, sparkly green hue, this gown is very “in” for this season. The contrast of green gown and accessories (designers TBC) against her red locks really works incredibly well with her skin tone.
Finally we see Carrie Underwood also donning an almost gothic Roberto Cavalli black floor length number accessorised with a 381 carat diamond necklace. No doubt that comes with its own security team.
Congratulations to all the winners!
