Acne Studios Ready to Wear AW13

Presented at Paris Fashion Week.

After gracing the London Fashion Week runways for several seasons, Acne Studios stepped out of their comfort zone, and headed across to Europe to present its first collection at Paris Fashion Week last month.

With a sizable collection of 44 looks, there is definitely a lot of variety throughout the pieces. This includes sheer material, thigh high slits, layering, photographic montages which take precedence as the main visual print for a number of the looks as well as various colours. From black and whites, to nudes incorporated with a cobalt blue, pillar box red and a bright yellow – there's consistency with brightness, but not quite in terms of a feminine silhouette throughout the colour stories.

Another notable part which I felt was a little confusing were some of the shoes. Some peep toe platforms and flats which almost resembled flip flop sandals with frills seem a little strange when this is an Autumn/Winter collection. No-one I know (at least, no-one who lives in the UK) would be able to wear anything of the sort during our winter months – take our Spring season right now, we've still got snow!? The sunglasses are a bit hit and miss, although I have in the past been known to rock a pair of shades with a winter coat if it's extra sunny outside. OR maybe the point of all this, is the fact that Acne are far more “in-the-know” than anyone realises and have inside information about some extensive winter-style summer coming our way? WE CAN ONLY HOPE!

Overall I'd say this collection is definitely one to watch. Some pieces certainly seem stronger than others, but given that this was a collaborative effort between Acne's Creative Director Jonny Johansson and artist Katerina Jebb perhaps this is why. The foundations of this collection comes from the inspiration that the pair drew from the archive of historical garments at the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris and Musée Galliera which they explored in detail.

This collection includes both womenswear and menswear. I've chosen to just focus on the womenswear for this post.

Here are a few of my favourite looks from the collection:
