Could this be the end for one of the biggest, most successful girl bands our country has created since the Spice Girls in the 90s? Girls Aloud was formed from Popstars: The Rivals almost a decade ago and are still going strong with every single and music video they have released. They have out shone the Spice Girls with their success and length of time as a girl group, and seem to be going from strength to strength… at least from what we have seen in the public eye.
Every girl group has one girl which is more popular than the rest, whether that’s for her classy style, or marriage to a well known football player, and Girls Aloud star, Cheryl Cole is the true star of this band.
She has been labelled the most stylish woman in the public eye, stealing the title from Victoria Beckham. Cheryl has taken it one step further. With such a firm likeness to Victoria Beckham with her marriage to a footballer, the stories in the papers regarding her husband’s unfaithfulness, and still sticking by him throughout. Just like Beckham did, Cole has gone from strength to strength trying to keep focused to concentrate on her career. However, Cole appears to have some deep strength from within, and unlike Beckham, the weight of these problems has not fluctuated her weight to concerning sizes.
She certainly is a woman to be admired, with such a full on career, constantly in the public eye, and now with 2009’s X Factor show, on which she appears as one of the four judges alongside Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dani Minogue. It really does cause us to question when the exceptionally successful 26 year old wife of Ashley Cole does even have time for what originally brought her to fame, Girls Aloud.
The questions come now, as she is releasing what will be her first solo single, Fight For This Love, which is on sale from 19th October. It is such a good reflection of what Cole is capable of, emphasising her remarkable style, class and talent. But does this mark the end of an era in order for her to pursue this aspect of her career? The original rumours of the breakdown of the group stemmed from Nadine moving to LA with a former boyfriend; however nothing concrete ever came of those. This is real, this is happening. This single really pushes Cole from strength to strength and really does show her versatility as an artist and performer. She really does have the X Factor.
