Face Down: London’s Biggest Rock Club

Face Down: London’s Biggest Rock Club

Face Down was put together by friends, Stoo and Si, who, like most young people, were tired of the disappointments of the London alternative music scene, and decided to take action. They felt the local scene was very dated and usually stuck to metal and hardcore, whereas they were looking for something a bit different. Face Down at Astoria 2 was born.

Due to the unforeseen circumstances of the demolishing of the area surrounding Tottenham Court Road station, Astoria and Astoria 2 had to close, and Kings Cross Scala became the new hot venue for this club. It seemed to be the perfect solution, with central location to all public transport and local amenities, whilst the venue was more than willing to support the idea of trying “something new”.

Face Down was given the run of the 2 main rooms of the Scala. The main room plays music ranging from Green Day, Enter Shikari, Paramore, The Famous Class, Blink 182, Metro Station, You Me At Six, NOFX, Fightstar, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World etc, whilst the metal room plays music from Limp Bizkit, Every Time I Die, Gallows, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Poison The Well etc. Both appeal to equally large audiences at every event. Each room is supported by the help of DJs Justin, Ferg, Nathon, Will, Billy and, Rocket Riyad.

Face Down has far more to offer than just an average alternative club night. Live bands have played at every single date since its launch in September 2008 from the likes of Paige, The Ghost Of A Thousand, and Tonight Is Goodbye. Guest DJs make their appearances and so far, Aiden and You Me At Six have made popular sets.

The club is also renowned for its performances each month by the infamous MOB girls, who originally approached Stoo and Si with their ideas. Since the launch night show, their performances are more than welcomed by a large male audience as well as enticing the females to watch. Their shows are becoming bigger and bigger each month.

Face Down is very enthusiastic about giving their audience’s everything they want and more, and even provides theme nights throughout the year. So far we’ve seen a Beach Party theme for the beginning of summer, as well as a “Xmas Ball”, just to add a special touch to the night. For its 1 year anniversary in September 2009, Stoo and Si are hosting a very exciting “Back to School” theme to celebrate the festivity, of 4th September 2009. It also offers many giveaways each month such as t-shirts, posters, CDs, tickets, stickers, from its sponsors Scuzz, Atticus, Mess Up Clothing, Road Runner Records and more.

Face Down takes place every first Friday of the month from 10pm-4am. Entry is £5 with a flyer, £6 without. The After Party takes place from 4am-6am to finish off each night, and wristbands are available from 3am inside the venue at £1 each. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/facedownclub.
