Jeremy Scott Ready to Wear SS14

Presented at New York Fashion Week.

PVC, zips, cartoon, bold prints and statements. These are the words I'd use to describe this incredible collection by Jeremy Scott. It did actually include men's fashion, however I've chosen to focus on the female looks. The first few looks show distinct rainbow blocks of colour – remember back years ago when television shows had some signal failure or interruption and there was that image of this rainbow-like barcode with a circle in the middle and two public figures? Not sure if this is the inspiration behind these few looks but this is exactly what this design reminds me of.

I'm not the hugest fan of PVC – usually because its not styled well (or appears cheap), but when done right it can look incredibe. As proven by some of these looks by Scott. In particular the red PVC style skirt of Look 31 and black trouser suit in Look 20.

Scott is famed for his eccentric patterns and designs, and a celeb favourite by the likes of the gorgeous Katy Perry. It's nice to see a collection which demonstrates that fashion IS fun – because that's what it's meant to represent. Not seriousness. Fashion like this oozes confidence with its out-of-the-box style by following its own rebellious path. While containing elements seen by other designers, such as the incorporation of zips from our current AW13 season (a signature detail of Scott), or clashing bold prints, this whole collection has a mind of its own. With a hint of the 70s era through the clothing silhouettes, sunglasses and models hairstyles, I believe this collection represents a reminiscent view back to childhood rebellion. Lack of worry and care with bold statements such as “I'M A MESS“, bold outfits to particularly grab attention, the return of the midriff and bright, sometimes clashing colours. All in the name of Spring/Summer '14.

Here is a substantial selection of my chosen looks from his next season collection:
