The world all over is in uproar about the latest American Vogue cover, featuring the infamous celeb couple Kimye (that's Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to those who aren't familiar with their coupledom abbreviation).
Celebs and Vogue fans across the continents think Anna Wintour has somehow “lost the plot” for allowing and putting these two on the cover, when Vogue is supposed to stand forward as THE fashion Bible – but this has been seen as somewhat of a joke.
In response to the haters, Anna Wintour stated:
Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)
Gotta love her slight humour at the end. And let's face it, she is right. They certainly have stirred things up and got people talking – which is exactly what a successful magazine is supposed to do isn't it? Get people talking and sell? And these haters have already expressed how they'd love to buy a copy to burn – so an extra few dollars going into the Conde Nast bank account.
Certainly a controversial decision, but it's clearly worked. Whether people agree or disagree, Anna Wintour successfully surprised her fans tremendously.
