Wow – is all I can say about this collection. Elegant, chic, simplistic with a feminine print and silhouette. This is definitely one of my favourite shows so far for this SS14 season, which is well represented by the substantial amount of looks I have picked as my chosen ones from the whole collection.
White was used solidly by itself, but also mixed with colours such as pink, blue and red to name a few, on colour blocks, as well as a mesh overlay. This is definitely a huge entrance for Spring. Some layers and obscure cuts for skirts created a completely different hem line to the usual pencil, A-line or skater trends we're currently used to. The cuts somehow mirrored the sharp colour blocks also presented in a lot of looks. These digital placement print fusing cuboid forms and florals within the ensembles represented a real Preen signature style; and while it seemed that the collaboration between Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi wasn't taking “outside-the-box risks”, I can't honestly say that this collection was disappointing in any way.
One move-on colour/style story in this collection was the nylon-looking pinks, yellows and mirrored looks with digi-printed macs. These again represent a slight futuristic feel – but would also look great during next year's festival season. (Practical too!)
Simple side-fringed hair dressed up with strappy sandals and colour-framed oval cat-eye sunglasses were a welcomed detail – not too much though, thankfully – so the main print focus on the looks was not lost.
Here is my pick of favourite looks from this incredible 38 piece collection:
