Are male celebrities going to continue as the new faces of our campaigns?

2012 has seen some hugely recognizable male celebrities become the faces of some of the hugest brands this world has to offer.

In summer 2012, David Beckham became the first solo man to ever appear on an ELLE UK cover for its July issue. This sparked huge attention not only from the brand’s loyal readership but additional and new readers because they were fascinated by this choice. Not to mention any loyal Beckham fans. The reasons behind the decision stem from this being ELLE’s Olympic issue, thus in a bid to outdo the magazine’s competitors, they chose to use Beckham because not only is he the Olympic ambassador for London 2012, a successful football player and underpants design maverick, he’s dubbed an “all round God” by his female fans.

More recently in October 2012, the A-Lister Brad Pitt has become the first male celebrity to become the face of Chanel’s most iconic female fragrance: Chanel No.5, also appearing on a television commercial. However, having received several mixed reviews, Chanel commented on their decision, saying that Pitt shows “the perspective of a man on the most feminine fragrance of all time”.

With these ideas in mind, it certainly does begin to make us wonder if our male counterparts (namely our male celebrities) are further going to become brand ambassadors for even more female products? 2013 is set to be a very interesting year.

One thing’s for sure, regardless of whatever the brand is – men, sex and celebrities sell – and they do it well.
